Following an impressive outing at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, Nigeria has ‘jumped’ from 42nd to 28th, thereby climbing 14 spots.
The upward trajectory in the latest ranking released by the Federation of International Football Association (FIFA) on Thursday also sees the Super Eagles move from sixth to third on the continent of Africa, behind Morocco and Senegal respectively.
Morocco moves by a spot to 12 in the world and the Teranga Lions of Senegal ascends from 20th to 17th place.
Egypt dropped three places to 36 in the world; and Cote d’Ivoire experienced a rise after lifting the trophy; thus they moved 10 places to 39.
Consequently, Morocco tops the chart in Africa and Senegal are second, followed by Nigeria in third.
Egypt and Cote d’Ivoire are fourth and fifth respectively, completing the top five teams in Africa.
